I am interested in the impulse to make contact with the physical world, to touch, disturb, alter, and leave evidence of having been there.

There is something tender even in destruction when it is understood as a need to be held. To press against a surface. To make a mark. To displace something simply to feel its resistance. Perhaps the things we alter are asked to acknowledge us.

I think about containers as spaces that allow us to be held, and about the impossibility of remaining contained. What we bring into the world changes the shape of what holds us. What holds us is displaced by our presence.

I am interested in this tension between holding and undoing, between the desire to leave a trace and the knowledge that every trace is temporary.
